Dear Parents and Students,

Union Arena Community Center is proud to announce the addition of SMARTS, an academic achievement program, intended to reward excellence in academics as well as to promote a student’s effort to succeed. These awards are available to all youth skaters grades K-12 in public, private and home schools skating out of Union Arena Community Center in all figure skating and hockey programs.

Our Skaters Meet Academic Requirements Through Studying program recognizes the importance of maintaining a balance between academics and athletics. You can expect the Union Arena Coaching Staff to encourage and acknowledge excellence both on and off the ice while stressing performance in the classroom is more important in life than performance on the ice.

Through partnership with local merchants, Union Arena Community Center will present rewards to our skaters on a quarterly basis for the 2008 – 2009 academic year, culminating in recognition of all SMARTS student-athletes at our annual

sports banquet. Additional information on the qualifying criteria for our SMARTS program can be found in Union Arena information racks, your participation in this free program is optional.
