A Word About Our Tournament

The Slap Shot & Shop Women's Hockey Tournament and Tournament logo

was thoughtfully developed by a group of local female hockey players

in 2003 as a means of bringing competitive women's hockey

to Union Arena and to increase tourism in Woodstock, Vermont.

Last year, I regret to say, numerous less than kind calls were received from

feminist groups and individuals decrying the tournament name and logo

as offensive to women; the pink purse pushed many over the edge

and the avatar who thought

"Shopping is a Sport" was the last straw.

It's a women's hockey tournament folks! Everyone has a good time,

friendships are made, good and bad hockey is played,

we do shop!, we eat, we drink and WE HAVE FUN!

It's a hockey tournament, that's all, not a political or social statement.

Thank you for your interest
